What is Blue Door Gatherings?

Blue Door Gatherings is a small events catering company based out of the Pioneer Valley.   Events are carefully curated to align with each clients expectations and vision.  It is imperative to us that whenever possible, we remain true to ingredients in season and use Massachusetts products on our menus. The service style at Blue Door Gatherings is reliant on the nature of the event. Our events range from intimate dinner parties to informal social gatherings. The Blue Door Gatherings team is committed to executing all of our events with a high level of attention to detail and excellence.

Where did Blue Door Gatherings start?

Laura Bowman, proprietor of Blue Door Gatherings, is a Massachusetts native who grew up with a curiosity for all things culinary. From a young age she was granted fierce independence in the kitchen which ultimately lead her to work in professional kitchens and attend the the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York to pursue a career in food and hospitality.  During her time at the CIA, Laura also fell in love with the world of wine. Over the last few years, she has divided her time between the Hudson Valley and Napa Valley and traveling the north of France. She took a two year hiatus after her associates to cook and learn about wine in the Napa Valley. She then returned to New York and focused her last year of studies on advanced wine and beverage, which allowed her to spend time in exciting parts of the beverage industry including the schools very own state of the art brewery and wineries in the Napa Valley. Laura graduated The CIA with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and concentration in Advanced Beverage and Hospitality. Laura has most notably trained in the kitchens of Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Tarrytown, New York and Robert Sinskey Vineyards in Napa, California. She also holds her Level I Certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers. In 2018, Laura moved back to Western MA to open Blue Door Gatherings.

Why is it called Blue Door Gatherings?

I cannot recall where the fascination with taking photos of doors began - Throughout the years I have accumulated countless door pictures, many of them blue. Universally blue doors are the most popular color door. It is said that the color symbolizes refuge and retreat making it a popular choice for home front doors.  For this reason, it also felt like an appropriate logo for a business focused on private, elevated dining experiences.

The doors I gravitate towards photographing are often incredibly indicative of their surrounding place.   The blue door at Thomas Keller’s French Laundry in Yountville, California is a hallmark of culinary excellence. The blue doors in the town of Cancale France are a reflection of Brittany’s maritime culture.  The bold blue doors hidden throughout Paris provide striking contrast to the austere architecture.  Blue doors in Old San Juan energize the Caribbean streets. Most importantly the blue doors on my childhood home were the passageway to my kitchen.  My food is both a reflection of my travels and my home in Massachusetts.  In some cases, it is even a reflection of some of the people behind those blue doors.
